Dr. Shadha S. Al-Raisi, is the Director of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) in the Ministry of Health, Oman. She is also the Director of the WHO Collaborating Center for Research & Training in Chronic Respiratory Diseases. She is involved in the work related to the prevention, control and surveillance of Non-Communicable Diseases and mental health in Oman. As well as the provision of health services for persons living with disabilities. She is the rapporteur of the National Committee for the prevention and control of NCDs. She is also a member of the National Tobacco Control Committee, The Ministry of Social Development’s technical committee for persons living with disabilities. She is the Principal Investigator of the National NCD Survey 2024-2025. She was elected a fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health. Dr Al-Raisi was involved in several surveys and studies. She worked on the Oman National NCD Survey and Global Adult Tobacco Survey in 2017. She was also the MOH Team lead in the work on the NCD case for Investment in Oman. She has also assisted in writing the National policy on the prevention and control of NCDs, the National multisectoral NCD action plan, and the National Monitoring Framework for the prevention and control of NCDs. She has helped develop several documents, including the Oman Obesity briefing book titled “Obesity in Oman, A public health challenge” and was involved in developing the “Regional Recommendations for the Treatment & Management of Adult Obesity in the Gulf & Lebanon”. She is currently supervising the integration of the management of the most common mental illnesses in PHC, the development of policies for providing PHC services for persons living with disabilities and the development of the surveillance system for NCDs in the country.
Dr. Al-Raisi holds degrees in Medicine and Biomedical science from the University College of Cork in Ireland and a Master’s degree in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine with a focus on the Management of Health Services.
Dr Al- Raisi has also attended and received certifications in a number of leadership courses. These include The Health leadership development program run by Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public health, and The Tobacco control leadership program, run by Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
