Nabil G. Seidah obtained his PhD (1973) at Georgetown University, USA. He joined the IRCM as a senior researcher (1974–1983), after which he became the director of the Laboratory of Biochemical Neuroendocrinology and a full professor at the Universities of Montreal and McGill, Canada. His major interests center on the activation of secretory proteins in various organs and species. He has cloned 7/9 members of the family of proprotein convertases and was instrumental in defining their functions in cells, mice, and humans. Since 2003, he has been endowed with a Tier-1 Canada chair on Precursor Proteolysis. He is a member of the Royal Society of Canada and the recipient of several awards, including the Orders of Quebec and Canada, Akira Endo, Lefoulon Delalande, Kuwait KFAS, IPS lifetime achievement and Taylor prizes for his seminal contributions in cardiovascular diseases.
