John Chapman is a Research Professor at the Sorbonne University, Director Emeritus of the National Institute for Health and Medical Research (INSERM) at the Pitié-Salpétrière University Hospital, Paris, France and a Past-President of the French Atherosclerosis Society (1999-2005) and of the European Atherosclerosis Society (EAS) (2009-2013).
He received an undergraduate degree from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland and a PhD degree in Medical Biochemistry from the Middlesex Hospital Medical School, University of London. I subsequently trained in cardiovascular lipidology at the Cardiovascular Research Institute of the University of California Medical Center and at the Gladstone Foundation for Cardiovascular Disease in San Francisco. In 2002, the University of London (UK) awarded me the degree of Doctor of Science (DSc) in recognition of distinguished career contributions to the field of lipoprotein biology at its interface with the pathophysiology of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
He is an Associate European Editor of “Pharmacology and Therapeutics” and a member of the Editorial Boards of “Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology,” “Atherosclerosis” and “Journal of Lipid Research.” I have served on several international Advisory Boards in the public and private sectors and on Steering Committees of clinical intervention trials aimed at development of novel therapeutic approaches to attenuate dyslipidemia and cardiovascular disease.
